Jayde I. Powell Champions Creator Entrepreneurship at Nashville Creator Summit
Nashville, TN — Jayde I. Powell joined fellow entrepreneurs and industry leaders at the Nashville Creator Summit to discuss what it takes to build, monetize, and sustain a successful creator-led business.
Held at Ampersand Studios on Nashville's Music Row, the summit was hosted by Represent, a creator-focused technology platform and expert marketplace designed to help creators scale their businesses and build long-term wealth. The event brought together creators, industry professionals, local leaders, and brand partners for conversations centered on entrepreneurship, business growth, and the future of the creator economy.
Powell participated in the summit as a Zoom partner, joining the panel The 4%: Building a Six-Figure Creator Business, which explored the business models, habits, and operational structures behind financially successful creator careers.
Moderated by Emilija Saxe, Producer and Manager at Publika, the panel also featured lifestyle content creator Caitlin Lucia, known as Nashville With Caitlin, and personal finance creator David Wilson of FinFocus.
What separates six-figure creators from the rest?
Of the estimated 200 million creators worldwide, only about 4% earn six figures, according to figures referenced in the summit's programming. The statistic served as the starting point for a conversation about what separates creators who generate consistent revenue from those still working to turn their content into sustainable businesses.
While audience growth and brand partnerships remain important parts of business growth for creators, the panel examined what happens behind the scenes: developing multiple revenue streams, establishing repeatable business practices, and building the right support systems to sustain growth.
For Powell, these questions are familiar territory. As founder and Head of Creative at The Em Dash Co., a social-first creative agency specializing in strategy, creative direction, and content creation, she has built a business that draws directly on the expertise and relationships she built through her personal brand.
During the discussion, Powell shared how her personal brand has contributed to the growth of both The Em Dash Co. and Creator Tea Talk, her creator-focused platform dedicated to education, community, and professional development.
Recognized as a LinkedIn Top Voice, Powell also spoke about building trust and generating revenue through LinkedIn, a platform traditionally associated with professional networking rather than the creator economy. Her experience demonstrated how creators can establish authority and attract business opportunities by sharing their expertise in spaces where audiences are already looking for professional insight.
The systems behind sustainable creator success
Another focus of Powell's contribution was the importance of operations in managing multiple creative ventures. Balancing client work through The Em Dash Co. with her own content, partnerships, and community initiatives requires more than a recognizable personal brand. It calls for deliberate business systems, clear priorities, and an understanding of where to invest time and resources.
As more creators develop agencies, educational products, media platforms, and other independent ventures, these operational decisions are becoming increasingly important to their long-term success. Powell's experience reflects that evolution. Her career has expanded from social media strategy and content creation into agency ownership, creator education, and brand partnerships, demonstrating how a personal brand can serve as the foundation for a broader business ecosystem.
“My personal brand opened the door, but systems are what keep my business running. Between client work, my creator community, and my own partnerships and content, I’ve had to be really intentional about where my time and energy go. That’s the part of being a creator that people don’t always see. If you want to build something that lasts, you have to treat your content like a business from the start, with the structure, the tools, and the support to back it up,” says Powell.
Creating more opportunities for creator-owned businesses
Powell's participation in the Nashville Creator Summit also marked another chapter in her growing relationship with Zoom, which brought her to Nashville for the event. As a member of Zoom's inaugural Zoombassador cohort, Powell is continuing to explore how technology can support creators who operate businesses of their own. Her participation in a conversation focused on operational sustainability aligned closely with that partnership and her work as an entrepreneur.
The summit's focus on practical business development also reflected Represent's broader mission to connect creators with the expertise, tools, and resources they need to grow beyond content creation. For Powell, taking the stage offered another opportunity to share what she has learned from building a creator-led business while contributing to an industry conversation that increasingly recognizes creators as entrepreneurs.
As the creator economy continues to mature, the conversation around success is expanding beyond follower counts, visibility, and individual campaigns. The next stage of growth will depend on creators' ability to translate their influence and expertise into businesses with the structure, resources, and relationships to last.
